State of Maine Cheese Company was founded in 1983 and remains the premiere cow's milk cheese company in Maine. They make hand-crafted Cheddar, Jack, Caerphilly, and Fresh Cheddar Cheese Curd without the addition of preservatives or colorings. They use milk from local Maine farms (Oakhurst Dairy) who choose not to use artificial growth hormones. All of the cheeses are hand-crafted by their cheesemakers. They personally monitor each phase of the production process to create the best consistency and texture. They use a vegetable rennet, all natural ingredients and only the most flavorful and natural herbs and spices for their cheese.
State of Maine Cheese company products are healthy foods produced from milk with exceptional flavor from wholesome, healthy cows. Tours of the plant are offered, but please call ahead (800-762-8895) to schedule an appointment.
The Cheddars are made by hand using time tested methods to create a creamy, aged cheese with a complex flavor.

Katahdin Cheddar (sharp)
Old Katahdin Cheddar (extra sharp)
Fresh Cheddar Curd
The Jack cheese is their variation on the well known cheese. It is creamy with a moderately firm texture. It comes in both plain and flavored varieties including:
Aroostook Jack (plain)
Casco Bay Garlic
Kennebec Dill
Sabbathday Lake Garden Vegetable
Saint Croix Black Pepper
Saco Jalapeno
Port City Pesto
Roaring Brook Sage
Mt. Kineo Caerphilly
A traditional Welsh cheese derived from a recipe shared by a Scottish cheesemaker. Mt. Kineo Caerphilly is made by hand in very small batches. The consistently high butterfat milk makes their Caerphilly creamy from the start with a nice sharp finish. The Caerphilly cures for a few weeks to develop even creamier undertones as it ages. This cheese is a unique taste experience!
