Built in 1882 in tiny Healdville,Vermont, by Winfield Crowley, the Crowley Cheese Factory, a National Historic Place, is believed to be the Western Hemisphere's oldest existing cheese factory. The building looks very much the same as it did a century ago, housing equipment and featuring an un-mechanized cheese making process that Mr. Crowley would still recognize today.

Today, after three generations of Crowley's and two generations of Smith's, Crowley Cheese continues to make one of the finest cheeses in America. The recipe has not changed and the factory still has the same weathered clapboards of yesteryear.

Crowley cheese is an all natural gourmet Colby Cheese. It's made from fresh, whole, unpasteurized milk without additives or preservatives. Our milk comes from cows certified BST and BGH free.

Tours are available, and a shop sells the famous cheese. They also sell other locally produced products.

Crowley Cheese
Technically a Colby, but made decades before Colby was created.
